Seven Games and Counting, Detroit Lions Will Look to Snap Streak Against the Falcons

This lost season of the Detroit Lions fell to even further depths with another frustrating loss Sunday, this time on the road to the lowly Arizona Cardinals. Losers of six straight games, Detroit next will try and play spoiler in a home game against the NFC South champion Atlanta Falcons.

Those looking to use Detroit (4-10) in their NFL picks this week will be getting four points against the high-flying Falcons, most sportsbooks were quoting as of Monday night. The over/under was posted at 50.5 points.

The Lions were done-in by turning the ball over against the Cardinals—most notable being  quarterback Matthew Stafford's three interceptions. Those miscues ultimately proved the difference in Detroit's 38-10 thumping at the hands of Arizona in Phoenix Sunday. Stafford finished a lackluster 24 of 50 passing for just 246 yards.

The good news out of Detroit was wide receiver Calvin Johnson continued his crusade towards Jerry Rice's single-season record for receiving yards. Johnson collected another 121 yards on 10 catches against the Cardinals, leaving him just 182 yards away from the record with two games to play.

The Falcons (12-2) appeared to stamp themselves a legitimate Super Bowl contender with a 34-0 stomping of the defending NFL champion New York Giants at home Sunday. The division champs have secured a first-round bye in the playoffs, but a loss could put them in peril of losing home-field advantage throughout the NFC playoffs.

So, can the Lions keep this one within the four-point line? Probably not. Detroit appears to be fully dysfunctional at this point and the Falcons couldn't feel any better than they are now following the good work done against the Giants. Atlanta will look to stay hot heading into the postseason and could get an easy cover against the Lions.
