If you're a Michigan State Spartans football fan, you'll love the following news: Former Spartans kick-return savant Devin Thomas has apparently inked a deal with the Detroit Lions.

According to his Facebook page, Thomas will make his return to Michigan...hopefully as a punt/kick returner in 2013. Thomas, who ranks fifth at Michigan State with a 29.1 yard-per-return average, posted a photo of himself sitting before a piece of paper on table with pen in hand.

And a Lions hat on his head. That was the kicker.

If the scenario plays to his advantage, Thomas should add speed and hands to a special teams unit that mightily struggled in 2012. Don't forget, Thomas also played wideout; he could be used in that fashion next season by the Lions, who surely need reliable hands other than those of Calvin Johnson.

Thomas was drafted in the second round of the 2008 NFL Draft by the Washington Redskins. He spent time with the Carolina Panthers and New York Giants before announcing his retirement from the game this past season.
