The above footage is of Jahvid Best's horrific concussion while starring at Cal. It's scary to watch. Sadly, his career has been hampered by head injuries.

Jahvid Best's health has been a concern since he became a member of the Detroit Lions in 2009.

The former Cal star running back had a promising NFL career ahead of him, we all thought, but concussions have put him at a stand still.

Best will beging the 2012 season on the PUP list, becoming available during Week 7. He can practice the week prior.

But will he last in Detroit that long? The Lions need a running back to help Mikel Leshoure and company. It seems, at least to recent reports citing Tweets and somewhat connected conjecture, that Detroit might not wait for Best to return to health.

Bleacher Report's John Rozum cited a Tweet that suggests the Lions could shop Best. At the very least, Rozum says the Lions should feel out the market and seek other options.

NFL Soup says about the same as Rozum, and lists Jacksonville's Maurice Jones-Drew, Houston's Ben Tate, Buffalo's CJ Spiller and Carolina's Jonathan Stewart as potential targets.

However, as great as all that sounds, the logistics of a potential deal have to be analyzed. What team in its right mind would want a back that's one concussion away from retirement? Doctors wanted him to wait a year before returning to the field.

What would the Lions have to package along with Best in order to get a player like Spiller, Tate, Jones-Drew or Stewart.

Jones-Drew reportedly wants out of Jacksonville. But he won't be given away.

Trade talks are en vogue at the moment. The Lions do need another reliable back, but what are they willing to give up? Lions GM Martin Mayhew has decisions to make, sure. Best would likely be a throw-in packaged within a larger deal to land a player such as the aforementioned.
