Add former Buffalo Bills cornerback Drayton Florence to the Detroit Lions roster.

According to's Tim Twentyman, the Lions acquired the 31-year-old corner over the weekend -- and just in time for the season-opener Sunday against the St. Louis Rams.

Florence, a 6-feet-even, 195-pound, nine-year veteran out of Tuskegee, should add experience and leadership -- blah, blah, all the cliche talk -- to the Lions secondary that is relatively young and features rookies Bill Bentley and Jonte Green.

Veteran Chris Houston, along with Jacob Lacey and the newly-acquired Kevin Barnes should benefit from Florence's presence, too.

Florence had a career-high 55 tackles in 2007 while playing for the San Diego Chargers. He followed with back-to-back 49-tackle seasons in 2009 and 2010 with the Bills and added 41 last season (also with the Bills).

On a related note (I apologize for the lateness of this update), the Lions beat the Bills, 38-32, in their final preseason game of the year. You probably knew that, though.
