Reeling Detroit Lions Looking to Rebound as 4.5-Point Favorite Over Colts

By SBRForum.com

The Detroit Lions will look to regroup this week at home against the Indianapolis Colts after suffering a third straight defeat on Thanksgiving day that likely ended any realistic chance of them making the playoffs. According to the Week 13 NFL odds, the Lions are favored by 4.5 points over the playoff-hungry Colts with the over/under listed at 51 points.

The Lions' 34-31 overtime loss to the Houston Texans Thursday leave them with a 4-7 straight-up record and needing to win all remaining games to have any hope of reaching the NFL postseason tournament for a second straight season. Such a predicament is certainly not what was expected in Detroit considering the talent the Lions' possess on both sides of the ball.

Too many mistakes have proven the downfall for Detroit this season, the most egregious of which may have come Thursday when head coach Jim Schwartz cost his team a touchdown by throwing the challenge flag on a Houston scoring play. That is illegal under current NFL rules and left the referee's with no recourse to correct their mistake.

The Lions catch a Colts team that currently holds a Wild Card spot in the AFC with a record of 7-4 both straight-up and against the spread. They beat the Buffalo Bills Sunday, 20-13, as a 2-point home favorite Sunday for their fifth win in their last six games.

On paper, Detroit looks to matchup well with the Colts in this one. Indy ranks near the bottom of the league in most defensive statistics and that could mean a big game for quarterback Matthew Stafford and No. 1 wide receiver Calvin Johnson.

Detroit also got a bit of good news Monday when the NFL announced it would not suspend defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh for a foot to the groin of Texans' quarterback Matt Schaub in Thursday's battle.

The Lions will seemingly come out for this one either ready to deliver some payback after three straight tough defeats or with their tents folded. The former seems the more likely and laying the 4.5-points could be a good bet with the Lions in Week 13.
